Ahmed Dabroom, managing director, released the newspaper at a ceremony organized by Mohammed Ashar, YIC's media manager, and attended by visiting guest Tariq Al-Maeena, a columnist for Arab News, and YIC students and faculty members.
Borrowing a phrase from Barack Obama’s inspirational presidential campaign slogan “Yes, we can,” the newspaper's slogan is “Yes I Can” (YIC).
Yanbu has an industrial base valued at more than $20 billion, yet the city does not have a newspaper. YIC Campus Times will endeavor to fill this void by including city news relevant to the students besides covering details of the happenings in the college like research and development and academic achievements.
The initial issue included a sports page that covered news of two YIC students representing Saudi Arabia in the Gulf Cup in the UAE last month.
Other sections of the newspaper are Education Focus showcasing the institute’s academic excellence, Industry Viewpoint highlighting the perspective of the industry on YIC students and Spotlight offering details about a selected department or area of the college. The first edition draws attention to the facilities in the library.  YIC Campus Times also has two pages in Arabic and a Hobbies section for students to display their talent in photography, poetry writing, painting, etc.
Speaking on the occasion, Dabroom urged the students to be the driving force behind the changes taking place in the college, saying the launch of the newspaper was a step in this direction.
Al-Maeena stressed the importance of a newspaper for the college and encouraged students to develop the habit of writing and participating.
