1. Ten years down the line I would like to be successful. Success isn’t a narrow concept to me; it includes all the things in life that can be classified as a “win.” Examples of this include making my mother and father happy, taking care of my brothers and working to better this world as much as I can through scientific research or community service. I hope that by the time these ten years come to pass I will have a picture of my holistic purpose in life. If not, then my goal for the next ten years to come is to paint that picture and strive for it.
Life is short, nevertheless I have been told that time well spent, however short it is, can be more significant than if life lasted for eternity. I wish to feel satisfied and blessed to be the person that I am, the woman that I am, who can contribute something worthwhile to human history.
2. I would like to be a successful woman in every aspect of my life. My future goal is to be a businesswoman in a good position, a successful woman who has gained and given experience to myself and others. Success is much stronger when it is shared and teamwork always leads to success. This is what I have learned and what I’m still learning. I see myself 10 years from now a businesswoman, a wife and a good mother who will teach her kids how to be successful in life. God created women smart and strong enough to handle the pressures of life; “impossible” is never on her list.
3. Life’s ups and downs are common, but somehow we manage to endure and call it a comeback. I grew up knowing that the truth, no matter how life might get, is more important than the consequences. Ten years from now, I will be striving to hold on to my honesty, loyalty and integrity! Throughout the upcoming years I hope and would endeavor to be a respectable woman, daughter, mother, friend and cardiologist. I want to be an educated woman, a role model to those who come in need, an inspiring motivator to those who have lost hope and a treatment to those who need repairing. In order to become all of these things I ought to be a true believer, deep in my heart aiming for righteousness and a steward of Allah Almighty’s dominions.
4. Every woman is unique, and by piling up all of our unique attributes as women we have helped to create a society full of achievers. No one said that a woman has to be employed to play a role in society. A woman can create a difference by staying at home and raising a new generation. If I could choose what woman I could be I would choose to combine all of the amazing and flattering attributes in every woman I have met or heard of to create the new me. However, being a designer I have chosen a visual language to express myself and to speak to the world. I am living my days to engrave my stamp through them.
5. It is difficult for me to describe how I would want my life to be in couple of years. As a Saudi woman, I have lots of dreams, and each time I reach one I plan for another.
I am motivated and very ambitious. However, I wish after 10 years to be the kind of women who represents the real Muslim female. I see myself as a happy wife and good mother.
In terms of career I want to be a professor teaching my specialty, voice disorders, helping patients by being a good speech pathologist. Finally I would like to carry out one of the community projects that I have in mind.
I see myself after 10 years living happily, enjoying family, appreciating beauty, mature enough but with youthful spirit. I believe in Saudi women, and I think we can make developments in our community.
6. My wish is for a life full of wellbeing, for community members to respect me, and to have the right to participate in the political, economic and social development of my country.
My hope is that men’s egalitarian standing does not conflict with Islamic principles and that I shall have a say in the Kingdom’s Shoura Council. I also hope that wearing the Islamic headscarf, we can drive. On this day, I send my love & appreciation to all women in the world.
7. I emphasize women’s need for freedom, equality and more opportunities and options. I wish to live without discrimination, violence or any other social oppression. I hope that women live in peace, their rights respected and their basic needs met.
It’s become necessary to support men and share the burden of taking care of the family. My hope is that a woman be given full independence in taking care of her personal affairs and able to make life decisions without being depending on her father, brother or husband. I hope that she’ll be given custody of her children even if she separates from her husband. I hope that women can contribute to building her homeland with her hand, her pen and all she’s learned without a man’s intervention...
8. For me, I only have my pen. I will make it my tool of protest with which I script what I see and what I wish. Perhaps the upcoming days will show me what I’ve wished for and yearned for.
I wish to exercise some of the rights women exercise in different parts of the world without deviating from Islam.
They include occupying high government positions that are almost all in men’s hands without any competition, conquering all discrimination between women and men generally and legally such as the need for a mahram in commercial operations, and to have more opportunities in terms of profession, studies, driving.
This day is but a reminder for women themselves on the necessity of being aware of their rights and to defend them. Won’t we, on this day, review our rights and ask for them? Isn’t it our right to do so on our international day?
9. On a personal level my everlasting goal is to make a difference. To touch the lives of those around me in the simplest but most profound and positive way by doing anything and everything that is bound to leave its echo and make a difference in their lives in order to be remembered in the best ways. If I am to have a family someday, I would like to raise little women who would also contribute to making a difference in this world. Women whose names will shine and who will be taught to hold on to religion and tradition while keeping up with all that is new in the world and living their lives with extraordinary goals to be accomplished. On a different scale, I plan to excel in my field of work, to strive in order to reach my ultimate goal of reflecting the most positive image of the Saudi woman and her potential and capabilities since there are numerous people all over the globe who hold a false or stereotypical image of us as Saudi women. The goal is to change that, to represent my country in whichever way I can and reflect a shining image of who we really are.
