The Red Crescent started the program in April 2008 in coordination with the International Committee for The Red Cross, represented by the Regional Office in Kuwait.
The program commenced with 40 phone calls between Saudi detainees in Guantanamo and their families and 13 phone calls between detainees in Afghanistan and their families in the Kingdom.
The Red Crescent also launched video communication as of September 2010 and more than 25 calls were facilitated between detainees in Guantanamo and their families. The first video call between detainees in Afghanistan and families took place in June 2010.
