Two months ago, Jeddah hosted the Fourth Asian Film Festival. These events are viewed as attempts from European and Asian embassies, consulates and cultural centers to enhance the cinema culture in Saudi society. The movies — to be screened from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. at the Italian Club — are from Italy, Spain, UK, Germany, Turkey, Switzerland, France and Ireland. The festival will take place through April 20. Admission is by invitation. The consulates have invited Saudi artists, and media people. Invitations have also been sent to the varying diplomats living in the Kingdom. The Saudi short film “Jeddah, Meeting of Cultures and Civilizations” will be featured at the festival. The film’s director, Mamdouh Salim, said: “This is a good opportunity for us to benefit from Europe’s long experience in filmmaking and it is also a great opportunity for us to meet the Saudi audience in Jeddah.”
