The suspect was following the businessman on his way from Makkah to Jeddah. When the victim stopped at a gas station in Al-Waziriyah neighborhood in south Jeddah for refreshments, the thief took advantage and stole the bag from inside the car.
When the businessman returned, he found that the car windows were smashed and the bag inside stolen.
“The victim contacted the police right away, and a wide search for the suspect was launched,” said Brig. Misfer Al-Juaid, spokesman for Jeddah police, adding that less than an hour after the crime had occurred, the suspect was caught at a checkpoint near Obhur in northern Jeddah.
“When his car was stopped by security officers, the suspect seemed nervous. He was ordered out of the vehicle and officers then conducted a search which resulted in finding the cash,” he said.
Al-Juaid said the suspect told investigators that he had found the bag in an alley in Jeddah, but when asked about details he fumbled, prompting his arrest.
