According to the Prophet's Sunnah, Istisqa prayers are conducted in the event of a drought or delay in rainfall.
The prayers were also performed at universities and schools in various provinces. There were rains in Riyadh on Monday afternoon following the prayers.
Riyadh Gov. Prince Salman attended Istisqa prayers at Imam Turki bin Abdullah Mosque in the capital.
The prayers were led by Grand Mufti and President of the Council of Senior Scholars and General Presidency of Scholarly Research and Ifta Sheikh Abdulaziz Al-Asheikh.
In his sermon, he called for repentance and forgiveness from Almighty Allah. He pointed out that there is security and stability in the Kingdom as the Islamic Shariah is being fully implemented.
Istisqa prayers were also conducted at the grand Mosque in Makkah. The prayers were attended by Undersecretary of the Makkah Governorate Abdulaziz Al-Khudhairi and Vice President of the General Affairs of The Holy Mosque of Makkah Sheikh Muhammad Al-Khozayim.
Madinah Gov. Prince Abdulaziz bin Majed attended similar prayers at the Holy Mosque in Madinah.
