Wadie Abu Al-Hamaiel, director of the municipality’s Department of Bridges and Tunnels, said work on the crossing is progressing on schedule. He said the cost of the project is SR49.8 million and the total construction period eight months.
The official said work on the project was halted for eight months in order to redesign it to allow for future development. He said a tunnel was dug on Bin Baz Road to facilitate traffic.
“The opening adjacent to Bin Baz road was increased from 40 meters to 55 meters. The road is the nearest entry point to the Haramain Expressway leading to King Abdul Aziz International Airport,” he added.
The official said the bridge on the crossing between Prince Majed Street and Bin Baz road would free traffic on Prince Majed Street, making it a direct pass to the airport without any traffic signals.
