Hidayat, seeded second in the $200,000 event, lost 21-17,
21-17 to world No. 12 Park for the first time in his career, having defeated
him in their last 10 meetings.
"I have been facing problems with the food here and I
haven't been eating properly," the former world and Olympic champion told
reporters.
"I was low on energy and that is why my shots lacked
power. I hope to do better in the upcoming Malaysian Grand Prix."
World No. 1 and top seed Lee Chong Wei of Malaysia had no
such problems as he made short work of Indian Sourabh Verma to reach the semifinals.
Lee eased to a 21-7, 21-8 win over the Indian qualifier, who
had defeated former Asian champion Sony Dwi Kuncoro and seventh seed Kenichi
Tago of Japan on his way to the quarterfinals.
The Malaysian, who will meet Hong Kong's Hu Yun in the semifinals,
was impressed by Verma's show and had a few words of encouragement for the
20-year old.
"He (Verma) is a strong player. He has beaten some top
players here. He will learn with experience and will do well in future,"
Chong Wei said.
Hu, seeded eighth, defeated India's Gurusai Datt 21-10,
21-16 while Dane Peter Gade beat Japan's Takuma Ueda 23-21, 21-10 to set up a
match with Park for a place in Sunday's final.
In the women's singles, fourth seed Yip Pui Yin of Hong Kong
will take on Thailand's Porntip Buranaprasertsuk in one semi-final on Saturday
while Korean third seed Bae Youn Joo will clash with Japanese Sayaka Sato in
the other.
