Instead of meeting at the conference halls of hotels and schools, the alumni’s executive committee led by P.A. Abdul Rahman, managing director of Shifa Jeddah Polyclinic, decided to organize the function on the sea, allowing participants to enjoy the natural beauty while attending the programs.
Abdul Rahman, who was elected president of the alumni recently, opened the event urging the college’s graduates in the city to strengthen the organization in order to carry out various humanitarian and community welfare programs.
A variety of cultural programs including songs in Malayalam, Arabic, Hindi and Tamil by singers Masood Thangal, Kareem Mavoor and Rehna Saleem made the event enjoyable for the participants including a large number of children. Little entertainers such as Haifa Hamza, Noufa Shakir, Shibla Umer and Arwa Ibrahim won the applause of the audience for their performances.
The boat song with little children in action on “Malappuram Chundan” was hilarious as it highlighted many issues facing expatriates such as rise in prices, the huroob problem and school-fees hike.
“Our ship journey was really different and enjoyable. The Malappuram College alumni has done a marvelous job. We expect more such novel ideas and programs from them,” said Bashir Vallikkunnu, who is a famous blogger.
Ashraf Unneen, general secretary, said the alumni has plans to organize a medical camp to enlighten the public on health issues, and an educational program to enlighten students and their parents on how to excel in their studies by making use of modern facilities such as the Internet. “A sports day and an IT seminar are other scheduled programs for this year,” he added.
Iqbal Konnola, chairman of the advisory board, presided over the opening session, while Musafir of Malayalam News, Hamza Valiyadan, Ismail Mankarathodi and Sameer Malappuram felicitated the participants. Umer Paravath was the program convener.
