Building on historical strengths creating large format photographic works of and about the Middle East, the Gilgamesh team will shortly be unveiling a forward list of titles ranging from illustrated reference to history, contemporary analysis and travel writing.
Max Scott, Graham Edwards and Charles Powell are members of the team behind Gilgamesh.
Following a degree in Arabic and Middle East Studies, Max traveled extensively working on behalf of some of the larger US publishing houses, before taking over at Stacey International to build the list into one of the major publishing houses specializing in the Arab World. The Middle East will remain an important theme at Gilgamesh Publishing – the current political turbulence in the Arab World provides a requirement for commentary and analysis that will need to be addressed by the publishing world.
Graham's work at Stacey International, where he was the driving force behind the uncompromisingly high standards of design, earned acclaim from overseas co-edition partners and mainstream book reviewers alike. Examples from his extensive portfolio might be (a celebration of wildlife in China through the lens of Heather Angel, former President of the Royal Photographic Society) or (striking images of endangered species as charted by Stanley Johnson in his work within the United Nations Environment Program, (UNEP).
Having worked undaunted on the editorial requirements of major reference works such as , Charles looks after the editorial management and production processes, and will be central in developing the new list.
Gilgamesh Publishing feels confident it has the core people and skills to create a new publishing house of stature with global distribution partners, which will ensure promotion of the list internationally. The new editorial board of Gilgamesh is already at work reviewing proposals for autumn publication.
