A police officer says seven people, including four civilians, were also wounded in Monday’s blast in the capital’s Firdous Square.
A doctor at a nearby hospital confirmed the causality figures.
Both officials spoke on condition of anonymity as they were not authorized to brief the media.
Violence has dropped nationwide since 2008, but militants are still capable of carrying out bombings and launching attacks against Iraqi and US forces.
