According to the head of the ministry’s media section Osama Nugali, the government department has been earmarking positions for women for the last six years.
“It’s a joint effort by us and the Ministry of Civil Service. The regulations are the same for both genders,” he said.
Nugali pointed out that women applying for these jobs go through the same career progression as men.
“Hiring women in the ministry is relatively recent, therefore they will have to go through the same process as other diplomats,” he said, adding that there is nothing against women achieving high positions in the Kingdom’s embassies and missions abroad and that all jobs for both genders are subject to the same regulations.
Women in the diplomatic field undergo training at the ministry’s Institute of Diplomatic Studies, according to Nugali.
“We have Saudi women diplomats in New York, London, Cairo and many other places around the world,” he said.
