Judges, lawyers and women graduates of law colleges who could not find jobs in their fields received the news with joy and satisfaction.
The question is: Who is more capable of dealing with a woman, understanding her and helping her, than members of her own gender? The courts are replete with cases involving women, including those of child custody, alimony, divorce, and others.
These are the matters in which a woman needs her own like. Therefore, the establishment of special women sections in courts to assist women, support them and provide them with legal counseling in cases of inheritance, divorce cases and representation is a welcome move. Women are more qualified to give advice to other women. There are personal matters which a woman is embarrassed to discuss with a man.
Some women will not be willing to speak to men about their family matters, their married life or financial condition. Women, no doubt, are more capable of understanding one another. They can communicate easily with one another.
There are psychological and social barriers that may prevent women from seeking legal counseling from men even if they are their fathers, brothers or sons. Many women who do not have legal representatives follow up their issues themselves at government departments.
They may sometimes appoint representatives who are not honest enough to fight for their rights. This happens because there are no women legal counselors.
When a woman helps another woman, this undoubtedly expedites the paperwork and other administrative formalities. A woman legal employee can easily check the identity of other women.
This is an important legal procedure, especially as some male representatives might bring other veiled women and claim that they are their clients. The decision of the Justice Ministry will also help in providing job opportunities for Saudi women who have graduated from legal or Shariah law colleges.
There are hundreds of them who need opportunities to prove themselves and contribute to the development of the legal system that Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah has asked for.
According to statistics from the Ministry of Education, there were more than 15 Saudi women with legal certificates achieved from abroad between 2002 and 2005. Why can’t we benefit from their experiences and qualifications, particularly as the Saudi woman has proved herself in many sectors. Why do we not encourage and support the Saudi woman?
