University of California, Davis Children’s Hospital in Sacramento says in a statement Sunday that the child was just the third person in the United States known to have recovered without having antiviral inoculations immediately after. The figure couldn’t be immediately confirmed with the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, which didn’t respond to a message left late Sunday night by The Associated Press.
Precious Reynolds of Willow Creek contracted rabies in April. The hospital said she was treated by its pediatricians in coordination with state health officials and the CDC.
