“Ghadeer’s art school teacher has always predicted an artistic path for her, considering her unique creative talents. In fact, she inherited her love of art from me and her father’s family,” commented Al-Raba’an’s mother.
In this sweet interview, Arab News caught up with Al-Raba’an on her success:
I have always liked art, drawing and cooking. One day, my cousin asked me: “Ghadeer why don’t you make your own baking business? You can bake better than many others in the market.”
The idea of selling what I cook intrigued me, so I started selling cookies and tarts a year ago. I then expanded when people started to order other kinds of desserts.
Actually, part of my study was Lingual Stylistics, which gave me insight on the power of words. Thus, when I decided to launch my project, the movie, “Vanilla Sky” was at its top fame. I knew the name would best fit my project since “vanilla” refers to sweetness and “sky” refers to creation, unlimited beauty and talent.
I never received any kind of training; however, I learn new things with every order. I search books and the Internet for new and inspiring ideas. Then, I create my design with my own special touches. This is how I transform every baking experience into a true pleasure.
I received strong support from Mr. Alain J. Eid, the manager of Tavola store in Khobar and a Wilton method instructor who was very impressed with the way I decorate my cakes. His words as an expert in the field enhanced my confidence.
I am currently working during the weekends only, as I am in my final year of study. I am planning to enlarge my project after I graduate. However, I am also considering offers from local bakeries and coffee shops in different locations. Studying is not a burden, but my desire for ultimate perfection through the tiniest details sometimes drives me mad!
It includes many desserts like cupcakes, tarts, cheesecakes, cookies and cakes. We are also considering special low fat cakes and cookies when our project enlarges.
I always like to create and never like to copy a picture or a certain character — although I would have to do so under customer requests. When I receive the order, I ask for specific details about the owner of the celebration, like what they like or do in life. Thus, I find out something to build the theme of the cake upon.
