Jeddah Mayor Hani Abu Ras had ordered the municipality office to intensify inspection visits to several areas in the city in order to eliminate illegal selling of food and goods.
In cooperation with the public administration to control trade, and in collaboration with Jeddah police, the municipality clamped down on illegal trade in fruits, vegetables and fish by south Asian overstayers.
“We will keep a close eye on this location to prevent this type of illegal activity from recurring. Last week, we made several inspection tours through parts of the area, where shops were issued citations and warnings for irregular activities,” said Abdullah Al-Ajami, municipal office head of Briman.
The recent inspection tour follows a similar tour in Kilo 8 district in the south of the city, where a lot of unlicensed furniture material was sold on the streets. It was confiscated or destroyed.
“Our office was able to seize some 50 trucks used for the distribution of fruits and vegetables sold without licenses. In addition, more than 250 market-bound food items were destroyed,” said Khalid Bawarth, working at Kilo 8 municipal office.
