A Rio de Janeiro police inspector says Weber Garcia do Carmo posed as a Microsoft representative and tried to sell the counterfeit licenses for close to $38,000 to the Fluminense club. The inspector spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to speak to the press.
He says Fluminense found out that Carmo did not work for Microsoft and called police, who arrested him on Wednesday.
The official says police are investigating Carmo Weber’s claim that about 15 years ago he hacked into the Banco’s do Brasil’s system and stole $3.8 million.
