A diplomat and another official with knowledge of the situation said Thursday the alliance was considering deploying a second reserve battalion because of continuing tension between Kosovo authorities and the Serb minority.
NATO spokeswoman Carmen Romero said the alliance had not made any decision to send additional units. There are still about 6,000 NATO troops in Kosovo, more than a decade after the war that ended Serbia’s rule over its one-time province.
Officials said the reserve contingent isn’t intended to permanently increase the alliance force, but to provide temporary relief during the crisis.
