Upton hit a leadoff drive in the fourth for his 17th homer and Longoria went deep in the fifth, belting a two-out drive to left on a 3-0 pitch for his 19th of the season.
In Oakland, California, Kurt Suzuki hit two solo homers and right fielder David DeJesus cut down pinch-runner Blake Davis at the plate to end the game, preserving Oakland’s victory.
It was the second career multihomer game for Suzuki, who connected in the second and sixth against Alfredo Simon (3-6). Brandon Allen tripled and scored on the same play and also had a sacrifice fly for the A’s, who snapped a four-game losing streak Tuesday night and followed that up with another victory for a winning series.
DeJesus flubbed Nick Markakis’ RBI single but recovered to make a strong throw to Suzuki, who tagged Davis to deny the Orioles the tying run.
In Chicago, Fausto Carmona allowed four hits over 8 1-3 innings and the Indians beat the White Sox.
The win kept Chicago from passing the Indians and moving into second place in the AL Central.
White Sox starter Mark Buehrle (10-6) allowed a season-high 12 hits and had his streak of consecutive starts allowing three runs or less snapped at 18 games. Buehrle allowed four runs in 7 1-3 innings.
Shin-soo Choo had three hits and drove in a run for the Indians, while Carlos Santana singled, doubled and scored a run.
In Detroit, Justin Morneau’s bases-loaded single in the ninth inning gave the Twins a victory over the first-place Tigers.
With the game tied at 4, Rene Tosoni led off the top of the ninth with a single off Jose Valverde (2-4). Tsuyoshi Nishioka and Ben Revere both reached when the Tigers misplayed sacrifice bunts.
Valverde struck out Trevor Plouffe and Joe Mauer , but Morneau hit a ball up the middle to make it 6-4.
Joe Nathan allowed an RBI single to Miguel Cabrera in the bottom of the inning but still picked up his 11th save.
In Kansas City, Missouri, Alex Gordon hit a three-run home run, Billy Butler added a contested solo shot and the Royals survived a harrowing ninth inning to beat the Yankees and avoid a three-game sweep.
The Yankees loaded the bases with one out in the ninth and made it 5-4 on Robinson Cano’s sacrifice fly. After a passed ball, Joakim Soria reloaded the bases by walking Nick Swisher. Then Jorge Posada , on his 40th birthday, took a called third strike to end it.
In Seattle, Brandon Morrow allowed three hits and one run over six innings and the Blue Jays connected for three home runs in a victory over the Mariners.
Morrow (9-7), who didn’t allow a hit until there were two outs in the fourth, struck out a season-high 12. It’s the fourth time this season he has fanned 10 or more.
This marked the first time Morrow had faced his former team in Seattle, which took him in the first round of the 2006 draft.
In Anaheim, California, Ian Kinsler hit a tiebreaking two-run single with two outs in the eighth inning, and the Rangers rallied for their third straight victory over the Angels.
Mitch Moreland homered and Josh Hamilton hit a run-scoring single for the Rangers, who took a commanding seven-game lead over the Angels in the AL West with their sixth consecutive win to open a 10-game road trip.
C.J. Wilson (12-5) yielded five hits over seven innings for the Rangers (72-52), who are a season-best 20 games over .500 for the first time since 1999 by seizing control of this key four-game series.
