After Jade Dernbach’s 4-22 helped limit India to 165 all out, Morgan top-scored for England by hitting seven fours and a six as the hosts won with three balls to spare.
Kevin Pietersen added 33 before Ravi Bopara (31 not out) and allrounder Samit Patel (25 not out) saw the T20 world champions home, giving them more confidence ahead of the upcoming five-match one-day series.
England lost Alex Hales to the first ball of the reply and needed 10 runs off the final over, but Patel struck three straight boundaries — two through third man and then a classy extra-cover drive — to add another win to the 4-0 whitewash in the test series.
It was Stuart Broad’s first win as new T20 captain.
“Morgan played pretty well, and then for Ravi and Samit to finish it off was pretty special,” Broad said. “We’re delighted with the win, but there are things we can improve on.”
Earlier, opener Ajinkya Rahane scored a match-high 61 off 39 balls on his T20 international debut, sharing a 65-run partnership with the more experienced Rahul Dravid (31) before the India innings collapsed having won the toss.
Dernbach was mostly responsible for that, helping clean up the tail with three of the last five wickets. Only Suresh Raina (33) offered any resistance in the final seven overs for the tourists.
India had looked well set, with Dravid — making his first and last T20 appearance for his country — departing with his team on 104-2 in the 12th over.
“To come back from the position we were in after 10 overs is fantastic,” Broad said.
