Cell phone subscriptions cross 54.8m

“Pre-paid subscriptions accounted for 87 percent of the total,” the CITC report said, adding that the rate of cell phone use in the Kingdom reached 195 percent with regard to the population.
The report said the number of land phone subscriptions in the Kingdom rose to 4.49 million lines. Among them 3.37 million lines or 75 percent are household ones.
“With this figure the rate of land phone growth with regard to the population reached 16 percent, and with regard to houses 69 percent,” it said.
Referring to the spread of Internet services in the Kingdom, the report pointed out that it grew from 5 percent of the population in 2001 to 44 percent by the middle of this year.
It estimated the number of Internet users in the Kingdom at 12.5 million.
