Addressing
a press conference at Punjab House Sharif said, “The
government will have to frame a long-term agenda to ensure the sovereignty of
the nation.”
Sharif, who is leader of the main opposition Pakistan Muslim
League-Nawaz, lauded Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani’s decision for calling
an All-Party Conference (APC) to meet their leaders to build up a consensus on
the US-related issues. He called it a “good gesture.”
Speaking about the term of reference for war on terror, Sharif
said the issue of war against terror has been discussed in the Parliament and a
committee had given its recommendations to the government after five months of
deliberations, but they have been ignored.
He said the Parliament had also passed a joint resolution on the
May 2 incident and a commission had been formed, but no one paid any attention
to these issues.
The former premier said that Pakistan has sacrificed thousands
of lives in the war on terror but the United States never acknowledges its
contribution, which is very sad.
The PML-N chief said that a committee should be formed to ensure
implementation of the resolution passed by the APC. He said any negligence in
this regard can be harmful for the sovereignty of the country.
