Palestinian Public Accountant Yousef Al-Zomar said that 148,000 civil and military employee are receiving their salaries for September. He added that the Palestinian Authority (PA) needs $150 million monthly to pay the salaries of its civil and military employees.
Al-Zomar said that the PA managed to pay the salaries and meet other needs after it received finical aid from Arab countries.
The official said Saudi Arabia transferred $200 million to the Palestinian treasury. He did not give details about aid from other Arab countries.
Bassam Zakarneh, head of the Public Sector Worker Union, commended the Arab aid. “We thank the Arab countries for their immediate support to fulfill the shortage in the Palestinian budget after the United States threatened to freeze aid to the PA.”
