Civil Defense spokesman Maj. Abdullah Al-Amri told Arab News that the woman and one of her two daughters burned to death on their bed while the second daughter, who was in another room, died from smoke inhalation.
The spokesman did not reveal the cause of the fire but said it was confined to the bedroom of the four-room apartment, which is annexed to a two-story building.
He said neighbors contacted the Civil Defense after noticing smoke coming from the windows of the apartment on Prince Miteb Street.
"The Civil Defense immediately dispatched two fire-fighting and rescue units, who found the door to the ceiling locked and had to break it open. The door to the apartment was also locked. When the Civil Defense teams entered the apartment, they encountered heavy smoke," he said.
Al-Amri said while the rescue teams were searching for survivors, the fire-fighting units were battling the fire, which was confined to the bedroom and its curtains.
Al-Amri said there was no one else in the apartment besides the woman and her two daughters. He added that investigations were still ongoing to determine the causes of the fire and if there was any foul play.
