“The victim, a Pakistani, is a Jeddah resident. The incident occurred during the early hours of the day, when he was approached by the suspect, also a Pakistani national, and waylaid,” said Jeddah police spokesman Brig. Misfer Al-Juaid.
Al-Juaid said the victim suffered several injuries and also lost around SR10,000 in cash. The victim was able to walk to a nearby clinic.
“Balad police along with secret police tracked down the suspect and arrested him. The suspect confessed to committing the crime. In addition, his fingerprints matched those found on the crime scene,” said Al-Juaid.
Meanwhile, Jeddah police are on the lookout for three yet-to-be-identified male suspects in another mugging case. The three are believed to be involved in mugging clients of a bank in north Jeddah.
“This week, Jeddah police received multiple reports including the one about the robbery outside the bank. The victims told investigators that force was used by the three suspects,” said Al-Juaid.
He said that security forces and members of the secret police are currently intensifying their search in the area.
In another incident, two Ethiopian women were arrested in south Jeddah on suspicion of stealing and pickpocketing from women shoppers in malls, police said.
“The suspects visited several shopping malls and souks around the city to steal from shoppers. They sold the stolen merchandise in the market. Items that were stolen included jewelry, cell phones and other valuables,” said Al-Juaid.
He said that investigators tracked down eight of the stolen cell phones.
“Secret police arrested the two women inside a shopping mall in north Jeddah. The suspects were transferred to a police station for questioning. They admitted to stealing from shoppers,” he added.
