Zamboanga City Mayor Celso Lobregat says the explosions ripped through a room in a budget hotel and in the cockpit arena nearly simultaneously around noon Sunday.
It was not immediately clear what caused the blasts. The city has been hit by deadly bombings by Al-Qaeda-linked Abu Sayyaf militants in the past.
Police Senior Supt. Edwin de Ocampo told The Associated Press that at least six people have been brought to a hospital with injuries.
Zamboanga, where US counterterrorism troops are based, was celebrating an annual Roman Catholic festival when the blasts occurred.
