New Zealand Police confirmed Monday’s crash at the Arrowtown Golf Course, but offered no details.
The Otago Daily Times newspaper says one man died while another man and a woman were taken to hospital. It says one was unconscious and the other talking.
The newspaper says the plane believed to be a Cessna Skyhawk nose-dived into an embankment on the eighth hole of the golf course at approximately 3.15 p.m.
The newspaper quotes a police detective as saying the plane had left Invercargill city and was returning to a private airstrip near the crash site. The detective says it is too early to speculate on what caused the crash.
