After unveiling the commemorative plaque in the presence of government officials, senior representatives from the private sector and media professionals, Al-Qassimi toured the center’s premises and interacted with the center’s employees and launched the center’s website.
“The center will promote positive news on Sharjah and its aim is to provide a balanced image of the emirate to the local, regional and international media” Sultan bin Ahmad Al-Qassimi, chairman of Sharjah Media Corporation, told Arab News. “Journalists may contact the center to get a clear picture of various government departments and their activities,” he added.
“The center in Al-Laya district will serve as a hub for media professionals and prove a credible source of information. It will offer various training courses to ensure the capacity building of media professionals and bring them on a par with international media. In addition, we aim to host economic, cultural events and media conferences that bring together local, regional and international media leaders.”
Speaking to Arab News, Osama Samrah, director of the center, said: “Media is one of the most important means of communication and the main tool to connect with the wider global landscape. Our center will foster excellence in journalism through the launch of media initiatives. The center will work on strengthening the stature of Sharjah on the regional and international media map.”
“The center also will entertain enquiries from local and international journalists and there would also be a place for journalists to visit and use the Internet,” he added.
