While 1.08 million pilgrims arrived by air, 46,192 people came by road and 10,871 by sea, the department said.Makkah Gov. Prince Khaled Al-Faisal, who is also chairman of the Central Haj Committee, will take a tour of the holy sites on Saturday to inspect vital projects implemented to ensure the pilgrimage runs smoothly and comfortably.
The prince is expected to inspect the SR6.5 billion Mashair Railway and the SR4.2 billion Al-Jamrat project apart from other schemes including car parks, expansion work at Arafat and flood control projects in the holy sites.The prince will also chair a meeting of the Central Haj Committee to review the progress of the projects.
In another development, Director of General Security Lt. Gen. Saeed Abdullah Al-Qahtani told Arab News that the security departments have completed their preparations to ensure a safe and comfortable Haj this year.
