The official says Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao discussed China’s claims to the heavily used sea lanes after President Barack Obama raised the subject during a retreat by leaders attending a major Asian summit. The official said 16 of the 18 leaders at the retreat discussed maritime security with most focusing on South China Sea.
China claims all of the sea, while several Southeast Asian nations claim parts.
The Chinese have expressed irritation with US calls for a resolution.
