The decision was taken at the 72nd regular session of the council held under the chairmanship of the council's new Vice Chairman Mohammed Amin Jefri on Monday.
Some pensioners have been receiving less than SR3,000 in monthly allowances.
The proposal to raise the minimum pension was put to vote during discussions of the Annual Report of the Public Pension Agency (PPA) and the majority of members voted in favor.
The council's Management and Human Resources Committee tabled the report on Sunday with its observations and the debate continued into Monday.
Shoura Council Secretary-General Muhammad Al-Ghamdi said the members expressed their views.
While approving the increase, Al-Ghamdi said, the members appreciated the services of the public servants and the members of the armed forces who had contributed toward national development. “They should be gratefully remembered by the government,” Al-Ghamdi said.
The council also requested the PPA to give details of its local and foreign investments in the subsequent annual report so that evaluation of its performance can be facilitated.
