Permanent Representative of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to the United Nations Abdallah Y. Al-Mouallimi also urged the Security Council to endorse the Arab League’s recommendations to end the Syrian crisis that was announced Sunday, the Saudi Press Agency reported.
“The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is deeply pained at the sufferings of the brotherly Syrian people,” Al-Mouallimi said in his statement to the Security Council.
“We appeal to the Syrian government not to respond to the legitimate demands of its citizens with bullets and other forms of violence,” Al-Muallimi said, urging Syrian authorities to accept the Arab League initiative to resolve the present issue.
He said the Kingdom pulled its members from the team of Arab observers in Syria because it did not find any seriousness on the part of the Syrian government to implement the Arab initiative.
