The agreement will help KACST learn from the varied experience of Lockheed Martin, one of the world's largest defense contractors and manufacturer of a range of innovative electronic, information, aeronautic and space systems.
"The agreement between KACST and Lockheed Martin will go a long way in promoting science and technology in Saudi Arabia," said Mohammed I. Al-Suwaiyel, KACST president. The agreement was signed by Al-Suwaiyel and Lockheed's president and chief operating officer Christopher E. Kubasik in the presence of Prince Turki bin Saud, KACST vice president.
A number of senior officials and KACST scientists attended the signing ceremony.
Al-Suwaiyel said the agreement with Lockheed Martin, which works with several government and private agencies across the globe, will also help offer new technology tools, transfer knowledge to Saudi society and cater to the aspirations of the people and the nation as whole.
He added: "KACST and Lockheed will undertake joint research projects within the framework of this scientific partnership."
KACST, which has tie-ups with several international institutions and companies like Lockheed, has been involved in the policy making of the government.
Kubasik said: "The company is looking forward to a fruitful partnership and long-term relation with the KACST, and we are indeed honored to be working with this premier scientific organization of Saudi Arabia."
KACST is the Kingdom's top science agency, which advises the Saudi government on the matters of science and technology.
"KACST has the mandate to foster international cooperation in the field of science and technology," said a KACST statement released on the occasion. On the other hand, Lockheed Martin, located in the state of Maryland in the United States, has had a special relationship with Saudi Arabia since 1964, he added.
Lockheed has a substantial presence in other GCC countries and the region also. Lockheed is organized around four core business areas, including aeronautics, electronic systems, information systems & global solutions and space systems, the company statement said.
Lockheed Martin Aeronautics Company is known for building the finest military aircraft in the world. This recognition was earned through relentless research and development of high-performance aircraft and by continuously seeking innovative and low-cost design and manufacturing strategies.
In the field of global training and logistics, Lockheed ranks as the premier provider of mission readiness and sustainment solutions. "From teaching aircrews to fly the world’s most advanced fighter jets to leading a convoy through city streets, Lockheed delivers advanced mission readiness capabilities through affordable innovation," said the statement.
