The opening ceremony got off to a gala start in front of a packed Boys Section Ground as about hundreds of students participated in the event, attended by a number of Saudi and IISR officials as well as teachers.
Parents and teachers as well as members of the IISR managing committee gathered to encourage the students to give their best performance on the annual day at the school. Saudi businessman Saleh Al-Hammadi was the chief guest. “It was a wonderful experience seeing children perform in their initial years of school when they are learning to walk, speak and conduct themselves,” said Al-Hammadi.
The event was also attended by Saudi dignitaries and senior school officials, including Mansoor Ahmed Al-Osaimi, Hamad Qiblan, Mohammed Firoz Rahman, Aqeel Shaikh, Vasu Anirudhan (IISR principal), Meera Rahman (IISR vice principal for boys section), school supervisor Mohammed Minhajuddin and Asma Shah (IISR vice principal for girls section).
Senior IISR teachers who contributed toward the organization of the event included among others Ataullah Khan, Abdul Haq Qureshi, Ashfaq, Sukumar and Shamima Khanam. The audience witnessed the performance of pupils of class I to IV of IISR Boys Section. On being asked about the secret of behind the overall development of each and every child at IISR Boys Section, Minhajuddin said the faculty proudly stresses on a multilayered learning process.
“It’s not only about learning but getting hands on experience about everything around us,” said Minhajuddin.
Culture and sports are an important part of IISR’s curriculum, said the supervisor. “It is well woven into storytelling, concept building, and general awareness,” he added.
Senior Saudi and IISR officials addressed the audience and thanked the students for their participation in the event with enthusiasm and true spirit. They lauded Anirudhan and supervisor Minhajuddin and their team for organizing this successful event.
“The school should conduct these kinds of activities, which play a vital role in the personality development of children and their physical fitness,” said the principal.
A large number of students participated in about 10 sports and culture activities during the annual event. The games included a relay race, rainbow drill, lazium drill and mass drill besides sports songs, fireworks and gas balloons.
Rahman and Anirudhan thanked guests and all members of staff, students and the parents’ community for their positive approach and sincere efforts in making the event a grand success.
“It doesn’t matter if you win or lose, it’s how you play the game and how you perform,” said Ataullah Khan, one of the organizers.
The sports meet showcased the team spirit, coordination, dedication to duty of the students and the staff members under the supervision of Minhajuddin, Khan added. The sports meet marked a festive look with the colorful flags, freeing of pigeons and balloons.
