AMU VC seeks financial assistance from alumni

The Vice Chancellor of Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) in India, Lt. Gen.Zameeruddin Shah, has sought financial assistance from alumni all over the world to help transform AMU into a world class institution.
Shah was the chief guest for the Sir Syed Day celebrations at the Indian Consulate in Jeddah on Saturday.
Shah highlighted the need for major reforms to improve infrastructure, quality of education, student housing, research and development.
He underlined the need to improve research objectives. “Our research should be market-oriented. We should spearhead research in the agricultural and medical fields. We have inadequate housing facilities. Hostel facilities with a 6,000-student capacity are housing 15,000 students. The university is planning to construct a girls hostel with a 4,500-person capacity.”
Funds can also be utilized for the non-resident Indian (NRI) boys hostel.
Emphasis has been placed on sports venues. Numerous courts for tennis, basketball, and badminton have been opened in every hostel. A golf course has also been established.
Food quality has also improved through the provision of modern equipment.
A career guidance center has also been set up across departments at the institution.
A well-equipped professional website has been developed, which is a window to interact and communicate with alumni, students and other perspective employers.
He urged university graduates to donate generously.
Consul General Faiz Ahmed Kidwai said that AMU is comparable with other top-class universities. He praised AMU alumni in Jeddah for their efforts in organizing the event.
Alumni President Farzan Ahmed Rizvi welcomed guests and praised the vice chancellor in his mission. He appreciated the assistance extended by the consul general to the Indian community, especially during the amnesty period.
The program’s highlight were speeches given by two student speakers, Iman Aqeel and Heba Rifat.
An alumni directory was released by Shah. The committee head urged alumni to register their names in the directory.
Plaques of appreciation were given by Imtiaz Ahmed, Nooruddin Khan and Mohammed Baseer, senior members of the alumni.
Danish Abdul Ghafoor was the program host.
