Al Taj A streaks to 6 th win in Inter-School basketball

The cold and windy night failed to dampen hostilities in the elimination round of the 1st Inter-School Parents Bonafide basketball tournament 2014 as Oliven Balmeo’s Al Taj Team-A coached by Jordan Tan proved too much for RIS Team-A to post its sixth straight win and SPIS defeated MSIS 94-87 in a Group A match at Riyadh Sheraton Hotel & Towers rubberized court here.

Elsewhere, ADIS team of Roberto Gulmayo stopped Elite B-2 of Nelson Navarro 66-62 and Morning boys of Elite team B-1 of Ace Mangalinao won against RIS B 68-62 in a pair of Group B games.

Ryan Biugos scored a game-high 41 including 13 threes, Drew Vallejo added17 and Balmeo himself had 15 as Al Taj Team A hammered out a 125-82 win.
RIS A dressed only five players for the game with Paul Reyes leading the way with 32 points with support from Dondon Silang, Benedict Uy, Camasura and Ariel Asilum.

MSIS of Yuri Viguilla gave it all in an exciting game where his men gave SPIS a lot of headache and the game was decided in the closing minutes. MSIS was up by 23-22 in the first quarter, 49-45 in the second quarter and 72-69 in the third period. Veteran Peter Poliquit scored a game-high 28 points with Topher Dimaculangan adding 23 and this 1-2 punch made the difference for SPIS. Butch Jose with 21 points and Dennis Almario with 19 paced MSIS.

The Morning Boys of Elite Team B-1 coached by Jerom Bautista finally posted their first win against RIS Team-B in a down-the–wire encounter.
RIS was in control for most of the game until it all unraveled in the last two minutes after Ronnie Ronquillo scored on three-pointer and Dodong Solis contributed as well to turn the game around for Elite B-1.
In other games during the week, Group A Elite Team of Bong Cruz brought down RIS 87-83, Fugen won against IPSR 71-56, and Al Taj blasted Palm Crest 80-63 in Group A, while in Group B, Palm Crest defeated Elite B-2 74-69 and ADIS trounced Elite B-1 91-79.
