A nation-wide photography contest was launched in Riyadh with the aim to encourage secondary school students, male and female to take pictures of Saudi landmarks and participate in the competition.
The program, dubbed SawerWatanak photography contest, is being organized by the Saudi Culture and Arts Organization, in cooperation with the Ministry of Education and HP Saudi Arabia.
The secondary school contestants stand to win various attractive prizes in addition to many other benefits.
Ministry of Education spokesman Mubarak Al-Osaimi said that the secondary schools in the Kingdom will be notified of the contest and its terms and conditions at the end of the 2013/2014 academic year so students will have a chance to take part during the summer vacation.
The competition will be announced through the ministry’s website and its social media portals.
Sultan Al-Bazei, chairman of the Saudi Culture and Arts Organization, expressed the organization’s excitement at cooperating with the ministry to present the first student-oriented competition, which is targeted at harnessing their creativity and innovation skills. He explained that the Saudi Culture and Arts Organization has selected a panel of judges who will be supervising the process.
In order to participate in the contest, students will have to fill up a especially devised electronic application with their personal data and upload their photos to the following websites of the Saudi Culture and Arts Organization at www.sasca.org.sa; Ministry of Education at www.moe.gov.sa; or HP Saudi Arabia at www.hp.com/sa.
There is no set criterion for the size of the photos but they should be suitable for e-mails. The participants are allowed to use any equipment or device to take the shot but they cannot use any software to adjust the photo such as Photoshop, except for color editing. The photos also need to be anonymous, i.e. without any signatures or names on them.
According to the rules of the competition, which is open to secondary school students in public, private and international schools, “the photo should portray one of the landmarks in Saudi Arabia or represent some aspect of the country’s development.”
The landmark does not have to be in the student’s town or city. However, photos of people will not be accepted.
