SR1 billion to develop Saudi ports

The Ports Authority carried out a number of projects worth about SR1 billion last year, said its Chairman Abdul Aziz Al-Tuwaijri.
The projects include the expansion of power supplies, new sidewalks, improvements in road and traffic signal services,security networks upgrades and amendments to traffic regulations that boosted safety measures.
He made these remarks as he opened a new terminal building at the Yanbu port.
Al-Tuwaijri said the projects at Yanbu Port, which cost more than SR400 million, were designed to increase the port’s capacity and strength to receive ships carrying larger volumes.
The authority evaluated and approved a number quality investment projects to be carried out by the private sector within the ports, he said.
They include new Ras Al-Khair Port, which specializes in the mining industry, as well as a new station at the Dammam port.
Additional development projects will be carried out at the Duba Port and Laith, he said.
