RIYADH: Teachers at private schools are entitled to salaries for the entire duration of their contracts, including summer vacations, the Human Resources Development Fund (Hadaf) has confirmed.
In a press statement, Hadaf said that the unified contract for teachers is in line with provisions of a Royal Decree (No. 121/A), which also calls for increasing their salaries.
Tayseer Al-Mofrej, head of the media center at the fund, said the employment contract governs the relationship between the school and the teacher, and regulates all leave entitlements. However, this does not exempt teachers from work during vacations if their services are required, he said.
He said schools have the right to determine whether teachers should report to work during the vacation, as this is an internal decision. “The school is nonetheless obliged to pay salary to the teacher, issue monthly receipts and make due contributions to social insurance.”
Meanwhile, Education Minister Azzam Al-Dakhil and General Organization for Military Industry chairman Mohammed Al-Madi announced a new cooperation agreement for sending 5,000 students on scholarships as part of the third phase of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques Foreign Scholarship Program.
The program, titled “Your Job and Your Scholarship”, entails employing these students upon completion of their scholarship programs in the fields of military industry, heavy equipment engineering and space engineering.
Al-Dakhil said that the agreement includes extensive cooperation and integration of the roles of the ministry and public sector institutions in order to unify efforts to promote national development.
“The General Organization for Military Industries will work with the ministry in the selection of rare specialties offered in prestigious universities worldwide,” said Al-Madi, adding that the agreement will bring “added value to the organization as one of the key players in technical employment in the Kingdom.”
The ministry began preparations for the third phase of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques Foreign Scholarship Program last week, which will focus on directly linking scholarship students with employment opportunities in related fields.
