JEDDAH: More than 50 visually challenged people successfully performed Umrah with the help of the Ebsar Foundation for the Visually Impaired and the Ambassadors of Volunteers organization under their program “Umrah for the visually impaired,” which was launched on Saturday.
Mohammad Towfik Bellow, secretary general and the driving force of the foundation, said this program has been launched to enhance the level of volunteer work, social responsibility and community work.
He said that it was a great pleasure to see the visually impaired people taking the opportunity with excitement and perform their religious duty under the supervision and help of volunteers.
He added that another group of handicapped and visually impaired people will head for performing Umrah next Saturday.
Khalil Abu Teem, supervisor of the Ambassadors of Volunteers’ program, said they took this initiative to enhance the volunteer work and to generate an interest in volunteerism in society as their social responsibility.
Teem praised his the team members and their role in the success of the trip made by handicapped people, and said a similar visit by women is being organized on Saturday.
Abdulaziz Zahrani, a visually impaired person who performed Umrah as part of the group, praised the efforts of the volunteers who were with them all the time to guide and to take care of them
He thanked both the organizations for giving them this opportunity for performing their religious duty wholeheartedly.
Ambassadors of Volunteers is a non-profitable organization that is working within the framework of enhancing and disseminating the culture of volunteerism. It embraces voluntary initiatives for people with special needs.
