RIYADH: A cultural festival called “Jouf is Sweet” was launched on Friday evening at a park under the patronage of Al-Jouf governor, according to a report.
The celebration was capped with the giving of gifts to deserving residents, such as those who had achieved a certain measure of success in certain fields.
Residents — families, friends and invited guests — flocked to the evening affair early, enjoying the festive atmosphere laced with excitement that was a throwback to the good old times.
They enjoyed looking at the native products of productive families such as food, sweets and drinks on display on the occasion while imbibing the gaiety of the festive atmosphere.
The event was exciting indeed, with the celebrants wishing that there should be more events to celebrate “as a way of creating fun for the residents.”
While enjoying the festivities, parents watched at the same time their children who were enjoying the recreational facilities at the park, reminding them from time to time to be careful.
The old folks said the festival reminded them of how they whooped it up during celebrations in the past at the park.
“That was when life was simpler, unlike nowadays when many of us have become busy at home or in the pursuit of dreams and ambitions,” said a 70-year-old Saudi man who used to be a government employee.
Another one said that “meeting at the park for the festival is an occasion to form new friendships that could probably last a lifetime.”
“Now, many of us barely know each other, simply because we have been taken up by our own preoccupations. This characterizes modern times. However, let’s take this opportunity to know each other more,” he said.
He added that “this event should be held more often.”
