This is with reference to the report “43 medical facilities in Riyadh shut for violations” (July 26). It is necessary to streamline procedures in health facilities. The authorities should not tolerate any wrongdoings in the health sector, as it has long-term negative consequences. The authorities should also devise a system to effectively monitor the functioning of hospitals and clinics. Creation of a hot-line could also prove to be very beneficial. People should be encouraged to report violation of rules and regulations at hospitals. In this regard, an online interactive portal should be established and prompt responses to public complaints should be ensured.
In addition to this the Saudi health authorities should further improve their hiring procedures. Sometimes we come across doctors who appear to be inexperienced. The Kingdom has the resources to develop a world-class health care system and it should take all possible measures to achieve this goal. — Khawar Ahmed, Jeddah
