This is with reference to the article “Who’s best for Mideast?” (Aug. 3) by Osama Al-Sharif. When are we going to stop asking such questions? How long will we continue to depend on others for stability in our respective countries?
It is high time we took charge of our own lives. No matter who is elected the next US president, we should stop our reliance on foreign powers. It is due to this dependence on outsiders that has rendered us ineffective members of the international community. Our relations with others should be based on equality and mutual respect. We can achieve this status by forging unity among our ranks and by acting together in the larger interest of the Muslim world.
Muslims need unity against all evils particularly radical elements that are plaguing the world. We have the means and resources to fight all problems. Work should be expedited on the Saudi-led Islamic alliance. It is a brilliant idea and should be materialized at the earliest.
