NEW YORK: A New York judge has tossed out a Kentucky man’s claims that the trailer accompanying Beyonce’s visual album “Lemonade” used ideas from his short film.
Federal Judge Jed Rakoff threw out Matthew Fulks’ copyright infringement lawsuit. Rakoff said he would explain his reasoning later.
In June, the Louisville filmmaker filed the lawsuit against Beyonce and the singer’s management company, Parkwood Entertainment, along with Sony Music Entertainment and Columbia Recording Corp.
Fulks said the producers of Beyonce’s “Lemonade” copied parts of his 2014 short film, “Palinoia.” The lawsuit alleged “Lemonade” was produced months after a senior vice president at Columbia had been sent a link to his film.
Representatives for Beyonce and the corporations didn’t immediately respond to requests for comment.
Lawyers also didn’t immediately comment.
Meanwhile, thousands around the world watched Beyonce and her husband Jay-Z as the couple attended the second round Women’s Singles match in New York City.
Beyonce and Rihanna earned more than awards during the recently-held MTV Music Video Awards.
Twitter says the two singers got the most social media buzz during the telecast. They were followed by Kanye West, who gave a typically rambling speech that touched on everything from gun violence in Chicago to his aspiration to become a mogul in the mold of Steve Jobs or Walt Disney.
