JEDDAH: Planning where to spend the Eid holiday? Rawdah court is the place to be, at least for the legions of basketball fans who had been missing the best of Filipino players from across the Kingdom in action for like three years.
The two-day Eid Regional Showdown basketball event organized by Filsama Basketball League under the leadership of president and commissioner Abdulmoen “Teng” Laguialam will feature select teams from Riyadh, Dammam, Rabigh and host Jeddah. Also, Jeddah Bangsa Moro All Star and Riyadh Bangsa Moro All Star face in exhibition game as an added attraction.
The Eid games start on Tuesday, with assembly time at 5 p.m. at the Rawdah court adjacent to Radisson SAS Hotel on Madinah Road here.
Consul Rodney “RJ” Sumague of the Philippine Consulate General of Riyadh has been invited as the chief guest on opening day. The other VIPs expected to attend are MA Mateen Khan, sales manager of the event sponsor Hershey’s Company, Mohamed Bayoumi, friend of the Filipino community and recipient of the prestigious Presidential Banaag Award, Joemar Baganian, WPBL chair who facilitated the Hershey’s sponsorship, and Jimmy Beltran.
It will be a double treat for basketball-loving OFWs as the four teams after the last day Wednesday proceed to the Industrial City for Part 2 of their showdown for the benefit of fans in the area. They will be hosted by the Industrial Sports Association headed by Eric Abrantes at the Modon Industrial Plaza basketball court.
