This refers to the report “9/11 Bill ‘ill-advised, may fuel extremism’.” (Sept. 15)
The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) and the Shoura Council have rightly criticized the US Congress for passing the Bill, calling it “ill-advised” and a “dangerous precedent.”
There is no truth in the allegations that Saudi Arabia helped 9/11 conspirators. The Kingdom has been and will remain against the terrorist groups. It has shown the world its abhorrence against Al-Qaeda, Hezbollah, Houthis, Daesh, etc. It never ever supported them in anyway.
Instead, the country has been donating a huge fund to UN to help eradicate terrorism from the face of earth. It has shown its promptness when it comes to taking actions against these groups for the sake of global peace. When there was a terrorist attack in Riyadh executed by Al-Qaeda in 2003, Saudi Arabia acted with an iron feast to bring the culprits to justice. Also, it has been very active to wipe out such groups in order to bring peace in the world.
Faced with the rebellion by Iran-backed Houthi militants, Yemen’s legitimate government sought the Saudi help, which the Kingdom responded defeating Houthis’ nefarious game plan. It firmly believes that terrorists are threatening the existence of mankind.
This is besides an intensive humanitarian campaign in many parts of the world to provide succor to the human beings suffering from drought, hunger or displacement.
In this backdrop, if the US Congress still harbors suspicion and frames charges against the Kingdom to drag it in 9/11 involvement, then it is a very shameless and ill-advised resolution.
Ironically, Saudi Arabia always considered US as its reliable ally without any reciprocation on several matters like Palestine or Syria. The US policy may have been influenced by the strong Jewish lobby, which is controlling political affairs of the US.
I hope the US will come to its senses and should not harbor any unnecessary acrimony against Saudi Arabia for the sake of global peace. — Anees Lokhande, Jubail
