RIYADH: As farewell tournaments go, they could be either individual or team events. Dirab Golf & Country Club and the FGA (Filipino Golf Association) picked team to bid goodbye to a golfing couple, Flore and Jean Louis Bouzanne, last Friday.
Emerging champion in the fun-filled Flore & Jean Bouzanne Masalama Golf Tournament 2016 was the team of Mar Vera Cruz.
Vera Cruz, finally adding one to his trophy collection after a long drought, teamed with Mario Marimon, Gil Verano and Danny Cabasa to win the four-person Texas Scramble format competition on 60 from a gross score of 68 and team handicap of 8.
Runner-up on 62 was the quartet of Dennis Catapang, Rolf Schiffer, Monika Schiffer and Anthony Gavin, while in third place on 63 was Resty Sibug, Flore, Jean Louis and Tony Castil.
Players enjoyed themselves out on the course on a sun-splashed day more so than Flore and Jean, who kissed each other after the husband made a four-footer for birdie to oblige a challenge from his Filipino wife. Sibug set up the birdie on par-3 No. 16 with a 6-iron. Sibug team then made it back-to-back birdies after Resty’s drive left them with a gap wedge second shot that settled 12 feet from the cup. Resty holed the birdie putt after his three teammates failed with their attempts.
During the awards ceremony Flore and Jean were presented with a plaque of appreciation by the FGA led by president Allan Malawanda. Flore served as Dirab Ladies Group team team captain from January 2010 to March 2012 during which time group membership has grown to 65 players at one stage. DGCC Manager Bouchaib El Jadiani thanked Flore for her valuable contribution in the promotion of golf in Saudi Arabia. Frenchman Jean, an executive at Saudi Oger, and Flore left the Kingdom Saturday on exit-visa only, after 35 and 33 years respectively. From France, the Bouzanne couple will fly to Philippines where they will live, with their time divided between the two countries.
Sheraton Riyadh Hotel sponsored gift vouchers and Alharam donated cash value vouchers for the winners.
