NEW YORK: Taylor Swift is regarded as one of the most charitable celebs since 2012, thanks to her generous donations to worthy causes, her visits and at least one call to hospitals, and her performances at benefit concerts.
Swift recently donated $15,000 to a a campaign to benefit Amber Lynn and Jonathan “Bear” Van Riper, a 28-year-old woman and her 7-year-old son who were injured in a car crash in Texas, Yahoo Celebrity reported.
Aaron Van Riper, a volunteer firefighter in the town, arrived at the scene of the wreck to help, not knowing the victims were his wife and son. The two were flown to a Houston hospital for treatment, and before they could even be released, a family friend started a fundraising campaign.
The mother remained in critical condition, with a broken pelvis, leg, and foot. Her son was released from the hospital with a broken leg and elbow.
“Both have multiple broken bones,” wrote a GoFundMe poster who identified herself as a longtime family friend named Mandy Kibby.
Swift’s gift is the largest of the more than $94,000 donated as of late Thursday. Organizers are seeking a total of $125,000 for the family.
