CAIRO: Egyptian actress Dalia Al-Buhairi made fun of terrorist group Daesh in an episode of her comedy series “Zawga Mafroosa Geddan” (A Furious Wife), where members of the militant group are seen chopping off her head for criticizing men’s behaviors toward their wives.
Last week, Saudi comedian Nasser Al-Qassabi’s Daesh-ridiculing episode from his Ramadan comedy show “Selfie” went viral overnight, while the Arabic hashtag (#selfie) trended for days throughout the Middle East.
National and International media caught wind of the story and prestigious news outlets like the BBC were keen to report on Al-Qasabi’s brave move to criticize the militant group.
Al-Qassabi responded to critics by noting that “As Saudi citizens, we’re entitled to our own opinions, because we love our country and care about it. It’s any Saudi’s right to address certain issues.
“We have presented our ideas out in the open, but the problem is not with our work but with the way some people have received it. They’ve watched our simple idea and made it into something much bigger than it really is. It’s a lot more simple than that.”
