The sight of so many bulldozers and diggers crawling from one place to another in the city at times instill an unexplainable fear among the motorists. Ask anyone, he will testify to this fact. In my case, however, these construction activities make me recall a cartoon I once saw in a local newspaper nearly three decade ago. The cartoon showed workers busy in some road project. A couple of diggers were standing at some distance with a passerby asking them, “What are you doing here?” They all were shown saying in one voice: ” We are waiting for them to finish the road to start digging!”

The cartoon has been etched in my memory.

People in Riyadh’s Al-Faisaliyah district are in a festive mood these days. A road dug up and forgotten before last Ramadan has been finally attended to. The area residents have finally heaved a sigh of relief. The unfinished road project had really become a nuisance.
